SAN ANGELO, TX – Students and some community members in San Angelo protested Senator Ted Cruz outside of Miss Hattie’s during his event on Friday, August 31st.

Antonio De La Cruz, who is a known activist at Angelo State University was able to rally up many Beto O’Rourke supporters, who is Cruz’s opponent in the upcoming election, to go to Cruz’s visit to San Angelo.

The protest wasn’t about changing people’s votes, but rather showcasing Beto’s name.

“It was about keeping Beto’s name out there and sparking conversation, if you see a counter supporter at a Ted Cruz campaign your first thought is going to be to take pictures and tell people how there was that one black sheep. This, in turn, gives more light to Beto,” De La Cruz said.

They were able to use Beto signs so that people who were at the event could clearly see which side they were supporting.

“As a Latinx Queer Pansexual American Beto stands for most everything I believe in. He is truly for a better Texas for all Texans alike. He has visited all 254 counties in our great state and has listened to what the people want and need,” he said.

“The most important aspect of Beto’s campaign is that he does not accept PAC money. This means that Beto does not accept money from corporations to keep his campaign alive he strictly relies on true Texans who believe in him. The reason this is important is because let’s say for example the NRA (national rifle association) gives Ted Cruz 4 million dollars for his campaign now Ted is obligated to vote laws into place to benefit the NRA.”

De La Cruz wants people to vote, because this election is crucial because both candidates are within single digits of each other in the race.

“GO OUT AND REGISTER TO VOTE BEFORE OCTOBER 9TH! Register, Register, Register. Take your friends and coworkers this race is crucial and the only way to win is with voter turnout,” he said.

Elections will be on Tuesday November 6th, don’t forget to vote!
